Minnesota Airports Conference Visits Rochester

MCOA Presents Its Project Of The Year Awards

The 2022 Minnesota Airports Conference visited the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester April 6 to April 8, focusing on airport management, operations, and maintenance.

The event was open to anyone interested in general aviation and marked a return to an in-person format. The annual conference was sponsored by the MnDOT Office of Aeronautics and Minnesota Council of Airports and facilitated by the Airport Technical Assistance Program (AirTAP).

Highlights from the event included an attendee welcome gathering, a keynote presentation by Dr. Mark Warner, a professor of anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic and an avid historian on the Mayo brothers, general sessions on topics including AIP funding and the state grant process, airport electrical compliance, attracting the next generation of workers, and aviation in a post-pandemic world, concurrent sessions exploring airport construction, hangar development, pavement best practices, and airport geometry, an exhibits featuring innovative products and services, and the Minnesota Council of Airports (MCOA) annual meeting.

The Minnesota Airports Conference 2021 Aviation Awards honored the following: Award of Excellence: Barrett Ziemer, Range Regional Airport; Outstanding Leadership in the Promotion of Aviation in Minnesota, Tom Werner, Duluth International Airport, and Cassandra Isackson, MnDOT Office of Aeronautics.

The following were MCOA Award Winners (Project of the Year Award):

Key Intermediate GA: Mankato Regional-Sohler Field, Taxiway Improvements and Runway Holding Bays. Airport Sponsor: City of Mankato; Consultant: TKDA; Contractor: Minnesota Paving and Materials

Key Commercial Service: Rochester International Airport, Taxiway D Reconstruction. Airport Sponsor: City of Rochester; Consultant: Mead & Hunt, Inc.; Contractor: Hoffman Construction Company.
