Winter's Coming - Are you Ready?

It’s that time of year again when the comfortable days of fall are giving way to cooler temperatures. Winter is moving in fast and will be here before you know it!

As you are going over your checklist to be sure your airplane is ready for winter flying, remember to also look over your winter survival kit.

Have you removed anything from the kit and not replaced it? Don’t assume that something is there just because it was the last time you checked.

Go over the contents item by item. Are any packages opened or damaged?

Look for outdated items (emergency food, batteries, etc.) and replace them if necessary.

Put fresh batteries in all items that use them.

Test to be sure your flashlight is working properly.

Is there anything that you need to add to your survival kit? Now is the time to do it!

If you don’t have a winter survival kit, get one or put one together yourself.

Some items to include would be a basic first aid kit, a signaling device, (mirror, loud whistle), flashlight, energy food bars, fire starting materials, emergency blanket. Having these basic emergency items won’t take up a lot of room or add much additional weight and could be worth their weight in gold.

Hopefully you will never need it but if you ever do, you will be glad you took the time to make sure it was complete.

Winter’s coming!

Be smart - Be prepared - Be safe!
