In 1968, I taught a student to fly in a 150 hp. Colonial Skimmer (predecessor to the Lake Amphibian). I soloed the student, with the restriction to "Airport Landings Only." Only two weeks later, he called up to say that he had landed on the river in Clarksville, and asked me to fly the aircraft out. It was located between the two bridges in the photo, but the bridge in the background was much lower then. I wasn't sure I could clear the bridges on takeoff, and couldn't sail under the bridges due to concrete in the water. After careful measurements, I elected to go downstream and downwind, UNDER the bridge in the background, my first takeoff from the water in the aircraft!
