Hanger Flying

While it is true that the saying “May Showers Bring Spring Flowers” rings true for aviators in Minnesota, May also brings the joy and excitement of the Minnesota Pilots Association’s (MNPA) annual Great Minnesota Aviation Gathering (GMAG)!

It also brings the realization that we have likely seen snow in our rear view mirrors, and that ice out will occur very, very soon.  Please find the full page ad in the Minnesota Flyer that reveals how to check into our event, which will happen at the Buffalo Municipal Airport (KCFE), on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16.

This year’s celebration of aviation in Minnesota again brings a cadry of outstanding speakers addressing a wide variety of aviation topics, thanks to the kindness and graciousness of people who freely give of their time in preparing and delivering presentations.  It is no small task to prepare for the presentations, organize thoughts and share ones experience in a cohesive, meaningful way…and to do this gratis.  Why do the speakers volunteer for this task?  Out of love for the subject matter at hand, out of the desire to share what we have learned with our friends and strangers who gather together for two days of all things aviation.

There are many choices for you to make from the 16 Hangar Flying presentations.  You might choose to focus on the techical side of aviation, learning about engine failure and the difficulties that dreaded event might present to you.  You may be wanting to hone your instrument flying skills by learning from an accident that occurred in Colorado.  You may recognize that your flying skills tend to lessen when you haven’t taken to the air as often as you would prefer, and want inspiration and an aid to help you keep your skills honed while flying to your favorite $100 pancake breakfast or hamburger.  You may want to know what your options might be with regard to medical certification.  How about gaining some insight into what might be the pathway for you to become a professional aviator.  And then there is the ever changing landscape of aviation insurance and how that might apply to you, as you grow just a tad bit older on your journey to become an old, bold aviator.  We greatly appreciate the association with the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame, and welcome John Mohr to our event as a keynote speaker…you don’t want to miss his presentation in which he shares his insights into his amazing flying career.

Well, we have you covered for all these things…and more!  AOPA has again come forward and will be presenting the Rusty Pilots Seminar on the Saturday of the GMAG, with none other than William Dubois at the controls!  The MNPA is working with the Minnesota Seaplane Pilots Association to bring you the Seaplane Ground School course on Friday morning of the GMAG, providing the opportunity for you to gain this logbook entry, or brush up on safe seaplane operations for those who already hold this endorsement.

Please come to the GMAG and celebrate with us for BOTH days!  We look forward to seeing you there!
