SOTN holds second annual Girls in Aviation Day

Girls in Aviation 2016 at the St. Paul Airport, organized by Stars of the North, the Minnesota Chapter of Women in Aviation, was even more successful this year than last.

Along with the many aircraft on the field, the Learning Jet, and aviation related businesses in informational booths in the hangar, two inspirational speakers addressed attendees.

Belinda Jensen KARE 11 television meteorologist, assisted by daughter Tory, gave a brief presentation about the weather, teaching how to measure the distance of a storm by counting seconds between lightning and thunder. She also shared several storybooks she wrote about the weather.

Elizabeth McCormick, Black Hawk Helicopter pilot told the audience how she overcame challenges to become a pilot of the famous bird.

"Your future is your responsibility," said McCormick.

She encouraged attendees not to accept no for an answer if you know you are meant to have a specific career path.
